Fantasy Baseball Top Prospects: Dustin Ackley Finally Gets The Call

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

Ackley got his long awaited call to the bigs last week

For the first time since its inception, the power rankings found it within itself to drop four prospects from the list this week, an all-time high. Between the overwhelming amount of prospects called up to the show early this season and the up and down performance of those already in the bigs, these changes seemed necessary. Another of the “super-hyped” prospects that fans have been waiting on for over a year made his major league debut this week, while a couple of prospects who haven’t received the same level of praise are making their mark as well. Not all of these guys will be fantasy baseball relevant right out of the gate, but they certainly warrant mentioning and absolutely need to be monitored in your respective leagues for sure.

Justin Verlander Top Fantasy Baseball Pitcher

Justin Verlander is our top fantasy baseball pitcher so far this season

Fantasy baseball is one of the more demanding sports and brings out the true gurus among boys (and girls). While some usual workhorse studs are in the mix for the top fantasy starting pitchers of 2011, we at Fantasy Baseball Sportal are here to provide you with some names you may not be familiar with.  It will be interesting to analyze the progression of these starters towards the all-star break and even late October. Because each team has a five man rotation (~150 starters), a top ten list may leave out some honorable mentions: Trevor Cahill (OAK), Zach Britton (BAL), Kyle Lohse (STL), Jair Jurrjens (ATL), and Cole Hamels (PHI).

1) Justin Verlander – Detroit Tigers
GS    QS    IP    ER    W    L    ERA    WHIP    K    BB    H    K/9

After tossing a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays, Verlander followed up that performance with another bid for perfection. (more…)

Fantasy Baseball Top Prospects: Britton Bounces Back And Hosmer Emerges

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Britton has sorted himself out and appears ready to shine

The call-ups have been come at a steady clip in this young season and rookies are establishing themselves much sooner than ever before. Now more than ever teams are bucking the trend of keeping their young stars down in the minors due to financial concerns and bringing them up to the show in hopes they can contribute right away. It seems as though more top prospects broke camp with the big league club this year than usual and they have shown they belong, both in the majors and on your fantasy baseball squad. Only a couple of these dudes found themselves dropping off the list this week and one guy in particular surpassed even the wildest of expectations.

Fantasy Baseball Top Prospects: Eric Hosmer Gets His Chance To Shine

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Hosmer enters the league with some major hype behind him

There is a buzz beginning to hover around major league baseball. Once again we’ve reached that time of the year where highly touted prospects begin to make their ascent to the big leagues. Hot prospects that got a taste of the show in spring training have either proven their value or shown they need more seasoning. The excitement around teams with prized prospects is certainly palpable. Fresh faces bring with them the promise of new hope and renewed optimism as well as the invigorating presence of youth. The rankings got a bit shaken up this week with news that one of the most highly regarded prospects in the game was arriving on the scene. Eric Hosmer was called up to Kansas City on Thursday, much earlier than anyone had anticipated. The Royals have put an exciting product on the field this year, centered around their seemingly unlimited supply of prospects. Hosmer has an opportunity to do something special and show fantasy baseball owners why he is well worth the investment. Its time to get with it or get lost.
