Top 5 Fantasy Baseball Matchups (Jun. 14th)

Pena just had his six-game homerun streak snapped, but he is still hot.

1.Adrian Beltre, 3B BOS: After a miserable final season in Seattle, Beltre is certainly enjoying the confines of Fenway Park. Beltre has been absolutely torrid to begin June, going 12-38 (.316) with three homers, three doubles, and eight RBI. For the season, the slick-fielding third baseman boasts a ridiculous .332/8/42 line and is showing no signs of slowing down. He is an elite option at 3B heading into interleague play.

2.Carlos Pena, 1B TB: Pena got off to an absolutely dreadful start and is still only boasting a .187 BA. Fortunately for fantasy owners, he’s also got 13 bombs and 41 RBI so he has been quite productive despite the low average. Pena has a history of being a streaky player, and he’s currently on an absolute tear. Heading into matchups against Florida and Atlanta this week, Pena is 6 for his last 15 (.400) with four homers and 8 driven in. He’s certainly capable of maintaining that power stroke as evidenced by his 39 homers last season, so this may be your last chance to pry him away from a frustrated owner. (more…)

Top 5 Fantasy Baseball Matchups Week of June 7th

Troy Glaus has been heating up for the Braves as of late.

1.    Troy Glaus, 1B ATL

When Glaus signed a one-year deal with Atlanta this offseason, the Braves saw it as a low-risk, high-reward signing. After a (painfully) slow start to the season, Glaus has really turned it on of late. He was named NL Player of the month for his six homers and 28 RBI in May, and in his first three games in June he is 4-9 with two homers and five RBI.

On the season, Glaus is batting .283 with 10 HR’s and 42 RBI, ranking him among the most productive 1B in the league. While I doubt that Glaus can keep up this type of production given his playing history, he’s showing no signs of slowing down and could be in line for a resurgent season if he avoids the injury bug. Fantasy owners should be running—not walking, to the waiver wire to make sure he’s not floating around as a free agent. If you were smart enough to snatch him up before he began his tear, congratulations. His added eligibility at 3B is quite nice as well. (more…)

Top Fantasy Baseball Matchups (May 28)

Alex Rios is playing like its 2007 all over again.

Looking for the best fantasy baseball matchups this week? You have come to the right place. FBS provides readers with the top hitter and top pitching matchups going into the week.

1. Alex Rios, OF CHW

Analysis: It wasn’t too long ago that Rios seemed like a monumental bust. After signing a lucrative extension with Toronto, the talented OF failed to meet expectations and was ultimately awarded to the Chicago White Sox via a straight waiver claim last summer. Perhaps the change of scenery has allowed Rios to tap into his talent because he’s been absolutely brilliant all season long for the ChiSox. Specifically, he sports a .342 average in May with six homers and 14 RBI with six SB. I don’t expect him to continue at this pace all season long, but he’s showing no signs of cooling down any time soon. With a season long line of 9/23/.309 and 15 steals, Rios is finally performing like the Roto monster that many expected him to be, including former Blue Jays GM JP Riccardi.

1.Justin Morneau (Twins): Morneau face the Yankees and Rangers this week at home with a three-game series against each. Over his last seven he has three homerunes, and 21 total bases. Last season Morneau hit .346 with three homeruns and 20 total bases against the Yankees in seven games.

2.Alex Rodriguez (Yankees): A-Rod makes the list yet again and has been pretty hot as of late. He has 10 RBI and added three homeruns over his last seven, this week he has the Twins coming to town for three and then goes to Cleveland for another three-game series. (more…)

Fantasy Baseball Top 5 Matchups (May. 8th)

Hanley Ramirez will be rewarding you for using him this week.

Top Batters

1.Andre Ethier (Dodgers): Ethier has six home-games during the upcoming week against the Braves and Phillies (three each). Last week the Dodger slugger had a stat-line of .480/5/13 with only one strikeout. The Dodgers have a strong line-up and have a few players who will make this list more than a few times.

2.Hanley Ramirez (Marlins): The games top shortstop has a full week coming up with three games at Chicago and finishing with a four-game series at home verse the Mets. In 16 games last season Ramirez had 32 total bases and hit .373 against the Mets. He is currently batting .318 on the season and I suspect it will be above .320 come next week. (more…)
