Drabek is going to contribute to fantasy rotations in 2011.

Trim the fat. That’s what many major league teams are beginning to do and while this time of the year isn’t all that stressful for established players, many rookies are sweating it out. Their fate can alter drastically on short notice, which can leave some ballplayers too rattled to perform adequately. Just about all the youngsters on this list will break camp with a big league squad, but a couple of them are presently locked up in a fierce battle for one of the last few roster spots. Only a couple new entrants into the PPR discussion this week, while the young guns that presently held spots have solidified their respective slots. Check out the latest

Drabek is a serious sleeper for 2011.

Position battles are beginning to shake themselves out and jobs are already getting locked down and that can only mean one thing, summer is almost here. A large contingent of rookies that opened up the spring with their respective clubs have already been reassigned to minor league camp and others promise to be right behind them. The youngsters that have survived this long have really impressed coaches in camp and have earned a legitimate shot to leave spring with the big league team. Mark Trumbo has quickly been making a name for himself.

The Grapefruit and Cactus circuits are both well underway and prospects all over the league are starting to establish themselves while others have watched their stock slip. With the spring training schedule already about half done, the time to impress coaches and management is now for many of these youngsters. With roughly three weeks to go until teams head north for the summer months, many of the prospects listed below have very limited time to unseat the seasoned veterans ahead of them on the depth chart and onto your fantasy baseball team. Lets take a look at who made big moves this week and other that fell off.

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Top Prospects (13-25)

Jesus Montero finds himself on our fantasy baseball prospect list and possibly in the NY lineup.

Welcome aboard. Throughout the season this space will document and examine the prospects of baseball’s top, well…prospects. Were going to start with a top 25 of youngsters and follow that up with a weekly top 10 prospect power ranking (PPR from here on out) column. Since prospects come and go with great regularity, we will keep only the most legit of minor leaguers as the focal in order to maintain continuity. These baseball rankings will be fluid and ever changing, so expect fresh and insightful content every time out. Now that we got that housecleaning out of the way, lets dive right into the inaugural top 25 for the beginning of the 2011 season. We’ll begin with 13-25, to be followed shortly by ranks 1-12.

25. Zach Britton (Bal) – Britton is expected to begin his 2011 season at AAA Norfolk, but don’t be surprised to see him make an impact at the big league level sometime this season. (more…)
