Could Furcal be headed back to fantasy stardom?
It’s the start of the fantasy baseball season and there are already a few significant injuries. Closers, Drew Storen, Andrew Bailey and Ryan Madson are all sidelined already and high round picks such as Carl Crawford and Ryan Howard are also out. Your going to have to find replacements till they come back so you don’t get in too much of a hole in your fantasy baseball standings. There are also some fantasy baseball prospects you can target that should help you get through the injuries.
These guys aren’t going to win your fantasy baseball league for you, but they will help ease the pain of losing one of your highly drafted players for a long period of time. Most of these guys are a stop gap and not someone your going to be able to count on for the entire season. These players are available in over 50% of 2012 fantasy baseball leagues so grab them while you can. (more…)

Kevin Youkilis is 0-for-2012
When is it time to panic in a Roto league? A H2H league? Is it after Opening Week? Two weeks into the season? May 1? All-Star Break?
The answer is a bit more simple than you might think. It’s never too early or too late to panic. We all play fantasy baseball for fun and bragging rights and part of playing the game is managing your team as you see fit. So, if you have identified a problem with one of your players then it is time to address it. If one of your players is raking but you don’t think he can keep it up then it is time to see what you can get in a trade.
However, there are times to be patient and give a player time to ‘right the ship’ so to speak.
I’ve been getting add/drop questions since last Thursday so let’s just address some of those questions by taking a look at players who have either under-performed or outperformed expectations in Fantasy Baseball‘s Opening Week. (more…)

Yoenis Cespedes has all the tools to be a steal in the 2012 Fantasy Draft.
In most fantasy baseball leagues, championships are won by the sleepers you draft in later rounds. It’s not rocket science that Albert Pujols is going to hit 30 home runs and drive in 100 runs or that Matt Kemp is going to hit 25-30 home runs and steal 30 bases or more.
One approach I usually take when drafting my sleepers late in drafts is going after rookies or young players who have destroyed the minor leagues and been successful when called up in September last year. (more…)

Will Alex Gordon duplicate his breakout 2011 season? Don't bet on it.
A few days ago I wrote about some “sleepers” to target for the upcoming 2012 fantasy baseball season, guys going later in drafts who could outperform their preseason predictions. On the contrary, there are players being taken in the early rounds of drafts in fantasy baseball games everywhere, who are destined to disappoint their owners. To clarify, I do not consider these guys as bad players, nor do I think they can’t have decent years. I’m saying that I don’t like what you have to pay to get them, the price is too high for the return you can realistically expect from them.
Over-hyped players can find themselves in such a group for several reasons. The main thing I look for when assessing whether a player is getting too much love in drafts is body of work, has this guy shown consistent skills for a number of years or is he just a flash in the pan? (more…)
