Wagner has been huge for the first place Braves.

Many players have received an A thus far, but who actually deserves the grade and who was a one-week fluke? We look into this question, and search for some answers. While some answers are obvious, others need to be researched a little further. Here is the midseason Closer Report from FBS.

Grade A

Billy Wagner (Mets): When he isn’t saving games, he is winning them. (5-0, 20 SV, 56 K, 1.21 ERA, 0.86 WHIP)

Mariano Rivera (Yankees): Rivera is always an A student, his second lowest ERA of all closers is proof of that. (2-1, 20 SV, 33 K, 1.05 ERA, .64 WHIP) (more…)

Dotel is a man on a mission.

This was a big week for the A-group. With just three players making the cut, they account for 14 saves.

Even with that excitement, Carlos Marmol makes the list for me, his K:BB ratio is now at 77:27 after an impressive 11 K’s for the week. At this pace he could easily finish in the top-20 K’s…and he is only asked to pitch one inning on most occasions! (more…)

If you need a closer...

There were eight closers this week that didn’t allow a run and saved at least two games. Within the A group, you will find four players who recorded a combined 11 saves and 18 K’s. One team is ecstatic their guy is back while another team is glad they found someone. Here is this week’s Closer Report. (more…)

Since the start of the year we have had very strict guidelines when it comes to a closer receiving an A on our list. With that said, this past week has been by far the best  in regards to the closer position. It was such a productive week that there is only one person who is receiving an F, and he recorded six K’s in just three IP.  How productive were your guys?

Brian Wilson is second in the MLB in saves.

Grade A

Neftali Feliz (Rangers): Not much to explain here, the kid continues to impress. Feliz went a perfect 4-for-4 while striking seven out and allowing just one hit in four IP. The young-gun leads the AL with 20 saves and has a 2.78 ERA.

Bobby Jenks (White Sox): Jenks is in the zone as they say and added three more saves this past week (3-for-3). His ERA is dropping dramatically as it is now just 4.33. The White Sox are playing very well right now and Jenks should get plenty more opportunities while the Sox are on their hot streak (seven straight). (more…)

Who???

This week was a very slow one for closers with just 12 players who received two or more save opportunities (SVO). While one closer in particular tries to make me proud, another tries to prove me wrong. Look for a new face and an old one in a familiar place. Here is this week’s Closer Report from Fantasy Baseball Sportal.

Grade A

Mariano Rivera (Yankees): Same ole, same ole, for MO. Nine batters up, and nine batters down for the week. Rivera added five strikeouts and was able to lower his ERA to 1.21 and his WHIP to just 0.63 for the season while adding two more saves. I would say at this pace Mariano can use his cutter to get people out for another five years. (more…)
