Zobrist had a record setting week.
Baseball is great isn’t it? One week somebody can be “Hot,” and the next week they can be “Not.” Over the past week, a number of different players have been making headlines throughout the league. Some of these guys have seen their stock rise to unprecedented heights, while others have continued to slip in every category. Check out the list below to see which big leaguers are tearing it up (or struggling mightily) in fantasy baseball.

Bautista has picked up right where he left off last season
The American League has always been home to some of baseball’s greatest hitters. So far in this 2011 season, there have been MVPs playing as well as they always have. There have been young hitters looking to prove that they belong. There has been some just trying to show the league that they still deserve some respect. This is a list of the most productive hitters in the American League as of May 2nd.

Domonic Brown is back healthy and doing damage
Things are starting to get interesting around the league and baseball is ready to welcome the sweltering summer months that are right around the corner. Players begin to settle into a groove and managers finally have themselves a lineup they don’t need to tinker with daily. For rookies, this of course means that they have either established themselves as contributors, fallen into a bench role or worse…been sent to the minors. Many of the phenoms we’ve seen included in this list previously have maintained their value, while others have lost it entirely. This weeks installment has that new car smell as some of my preseason picks have worked their way back into the discussion. The top of the list is still dominated by great young hurlers, but the guys found near the bottom have been impressive in their own right. Don’t lose track of these guys when determining rosters in your fantasy baseball leagues.

Brandon Beachy has been showing great poise in his rookie campaign
With almost a full month of the 2011 MLB marathon in the books, many young phenoms are well on their way to establishing solid returns and others are knocking on the big league door. Many of the same names appear in the rankings this week, but I’ve reserved the bottom half of the list for some players that are making noise down in the minors and doing their best to force a promotion. I had to say goodbye to a few guys who had disappointing weeks, but when one door closes another opens (or so they say). The newest additions to the rankings are familiar names for sure, but don’t sleep on them for even one minute because they are about to blow up in a big way. Be sure to scoop these guys up as they are sure to provide immediate dividends in your fantasy baseball league.

Capps is a very nice add in all fantasy formats.
Closer situations are the story in fantasy baseball this week. Some pens are struggling, others are fighting injuries and some are getting healthy. Saves is one of the most unpredictable categories in fantasy baseball because of all the variables that occur. Here are some players that are looking at more save opportunities coming up in the future and should be an asset in your fantasy baseball lineup.
Matt Capps – RP – Minnesota Twins
Joe Nathan has pitched his way right out of the closers jobs in Minnesota. They have decided to use him in less pressure situations until he is back to his old self. (more…)
