2012 Fantasy Baseball: For Real or Fictitious?

Is Carlos Pena for real?

Every fantasy baseball season there are players who get off to hot starts. Some of them maintain a high level of production for the entire season (think Matt Kemp in 2011) and others seem to hit a wall after performing well early on.

The importance of determining which players will continue to do well and who will fall off is crucial in managing your team. A player who is off to a hot start for your team but who you think can’t continue to rake should be traded while their value is at a maximum level.

A player on another team who does the same thing should be recognized and avoided in any potential trade offers.

Let’s take a look at some players by position and see who is for real this year and who has had fictitious performances thus far. (All stats are as of Monday afternoon) (more…)

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Week 17 Injury Report

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Another week, another update

To all my fantasy baseball owners out there, you know the rules, “another week of baseball, another week of injury updates.” You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them, so take a quick look at some key names either coming or going in week 17 of fantasy baseball action.

OF, Vladimir Guerrero/Baltimore Orioles: Could be activated from the DL by Tuesday’s series opener at Toronto. Guerrero has been out of action since the All-Star break after being hit by a pitch on his right hand. Guerrero has already played a rehab game for Class-AA Bowie on Sunday, so he looks like a full-go here in week 17 of fantasy baseball. (more…)

All-Star Balloting: Red Hot Red Sox Take AL Power Rankings by Storm

Adrian Gonzalez

Adrian Gonzalez leads a pack of Red Sox in this week's power rankings.

Fantasy owners figured out in May that Adrian Gonzalez was going to be a significant force in baseball, and was a must-have commodity for any lineup. Now he is joined by a few other teammates in this week’s power rankings as the Red Sox put together an impressive winning streak. The contenders are starting to break away from the pretenders as the season heats up. These are the power rankings for the American League as of June 13th.

1) Adrian Gonzalez – BOS (Last Week: 1)

Adrian Gonzalez just keeps on hitting. The big lefty has been a huge factor in the Red Sox winning 9 out of 10 games in June, hitting an impressive .410 this month, along with 3 homers and 14 RBIs, contributing to his Major League leading total of 60 runs knocked in. (more…)

2011 Fantasy Baseball News (January 5th): Adrian Beltre to Sign With Rangers

Fantasy Baseball

Beltre should give the Rangers some power.

Even though we are still about five weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting for Spring Training, there is plenty of off-season fantasy baseball news that will have an affect on the 2011 fantasy baseball season.

Where will Manny be Manny next season? He is still looking for a team, along with Carl Pavano, Vladimir Guerrero, Johnny Damon, and Brad Penny. However, one premier free agent has found a home and will be playing in a division next season that he has spent ample time within before.

Adrian Beltre to Sign With Texas Rangers

Adrian Beltre is expected to sign a multiyear deal with the Texas Rangers soon and will return to the AL West where he played five seasons with the Seattle Mariners. This is definitely an interesting move for all parties involved and there are fantasy implications for more than just Beltre with this signing. (more…)
