Top Weekly Fantasy Sleepers (August 26th)

V-Mart could be heating up as the season winds down.

We’re nearing the end of the fantasy season and every move that owners make are being put underneath a magnifying glass. Owners have to make their pick-ups selectively, and these sleepers are low risk and high reward. However, there is one player that will take some guts to start this week but has been playing really well of late.

#1. Victor Martinez, C, Boston Red Sox

The last seven games, Martinez is batting .321, 9-28, with two runs, two doubles, and seven RBI. Martinez is usually hovering around .300 but this year he’s a tad down.  For the season, he’s batting .281 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI. The Sawx have an above average line up that’s starting to come around a bit to make a late push for the AL East or wild card. Look for Martinez to have a big week.

#2. Chase Headley, 3B, San Diego Padres

For the season, Headley is batting .278 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI. That’s a pretty good year for the third-year man. He is only going to get better as time goes on. The last six games, he batted .318, 7-22, with five runs, double, two home runs and four RBI. With favorable season numbers against the Rockies, Headley will have a great week.

#3. Jorge Posada, C, New York Yankees

At the beginning of the year, you could etch in Posada as your every day catcher and be happy. However, he has been on the DL twice this year and has been struggling. It’s not like he’s having a horrible season, batting .260 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI.  Nonetheless, the last six games have been great and he should be back to everyday form. He batted .348, 8-23, with six runs, double, three home runs and seven RBI.

#4. Gaby Sanchez, 1B, Florida Marlins

For the season, Sanchez is batting .290 with 15 home runs and 68 RBI and he’s only owned by 57% of leagues. This will be a great steal if he’s available in your league. The last six games he batted .400, 8-20, with five runs, three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI. That’s a remarkable week that will be hard to replicate. Sanchez will be a great pick up for this week and the remainder of the year.

#5. Will Rhymes, 2B, Detroit Tigers

Rhymes was called up August 19th to replace the injured Carlos Guillen, and has caught fire at the right time. He is a great short-term solution to your second base problems as over he last six games he has 12 hits, three doubles, seven runs and four RBI. Rhymes will be available on your waiver wire because he’s owned in less than 1% of leagues. Here’s your gutsy play of the week.
