Positional Power Rankings (August 2nd)

Even a down year is good for this guy.

As the baseball season continues so do the positional power rankings. In some positions things are starting to unfold like they were predicted, but other positions there are some new faces in the mix. So take a look at these names below to see exactly what the perfect fantasy team looks like and dominate your game.

Catcher

1(4) Joe Mauer, MIN: Mauer still hasn’t been able to find the long ball, but he has kept up his great average though. Mauer owners have been racking up great RBI numbers from this keeper catcher. (9 R, 1 HR, 10 RBI, .632 AVG)

2(2) Bran McCann, ATL: Another good week for McCann and the first place Braves. A solid .300 average is good for any catcher in fantasy. (1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB, .316 AVG)

3(5) Miguel Olivo, COL: Olivo is trying to bounce back after a poor start to the second half. His average was lower than well… average this week, but his run producing picked back up. (6 R, 4 RBI, .261 AVG)

4(NR) Kurt Suzuki, OAK: Suzuki is good for a blow up week every now and then, this past week being one of them. (2 R, 1 HR, 7 RBI, .400 AVG)

5(NR) Matt Wieters, BAL: Wieters finally makes the list, although partly due to do poor play at the catcher position this week. (2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, .250 AVG)

on the cusp: John Buck, TOR, Jorge Posada, NYY; Carlos Santana, CLE; Mike Napoli, LAA; Buster Posey, SF, Bengie Molina, TEX

First Baseman

1(4) Joey Votto, CIN: Votto had a very impressive week at the plate, continuing his strong season. (7 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB, .481 AVG)

2(1) Miguel Cabrera, DET: Cabrera continues his chase for the homerun crown but falls behind Votto in the category and in the top-5. (5 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, .385 AVG)

Dude is straight killin' it.

3(2) Albert Pujols, STL: Normal Pujols numbers this week, although his average did drop below .300 for only the second time since the PPR has been keeping track. (3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, .276 AVG)

4(5) Kevin Youkilis, BOS: Jus call him Mr. Consistent. (4 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SB, .364 AVG)

5(NR) Carlos Pena, TAM: Pena’s value lies strictly in his ability to produce the long ball and drive in runs. (3 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, .250 AVG)

on the cusp: Justin Morneau, MIN; Mark Teixeira, NYY; Prince Fielder, MIL, Ryan Howard, PHI; Mark Reynolds, ARI Garrett Jones, PIT

Second Baseman

1(1) Robinson Cano, NYY: The funny thing is that his 3 homeruns and 5 RBI aren’t that impressive anymore, given the season he’s having. (6 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI, .379 AVG)

2(2) Rickie Weeks, MIL: Weeks is looking like the real deal, and should be in the top-5 for a while to come. (4 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI, .333 AVG)

3(3) Brandon Phillips, CIN: Phillips is still on track for one of his most productive seasons, helping plate six more Reds this week. (5 R, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .269 AVG)

4(NR) Dan Uggla, FLA: Uggla is starting to look like a very good fantasy starter. His average continues to ascend and with it so do his numbers. Its a good thing that defense isn’t a scorable statistic, though. (10 R, 5 HR, 7 RBI, 1 SB, .320 AVG)

5(NR) Kelly Johnson, ARI: Johnson had an okay week, but there is a big drop off from four to five this week. (5 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SB, .269 AVG)

on the cusp: Howie Kendrick, LAA; Juan Uribe, SF; Neil Walker, PIT; Placido Polanco, PHI; Martin Prado, ATL

Third Baseman

1(1) David Wright, NYM: Wright is one of the most consistent fantasy options this year. This is his second week in a row at the top spot. (4 R, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .474 AVG)

2(2) Adrian Beltre, BOS: Beltre had a good enough week to keep his spot, but some other guys are breathing down his neck. (3 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, .308 AVG)

3(NR) Jose Bautista, TOR: A monster week for Bautista has put him atop the homerun leader board. (8 R, 5 HR, 13 RBI, .538 AVG)

Bautista has proved he's serious.

4(NR) Kevin Youkilis, BOS: See First Baseman.

5(NR) Scott Rolen, CIN: Father time makes his appearance back in the top-five for the first time in a while. An above .600 average can do that for a guy. (4 R, 1 HR, 5 RBI, .643 AVG)

on the cusp: Michael Young, TEX; Alex Rodriguez, NYY; Evan Longoria, NYY; Martin Prado, ATL; Juan Uribe, SF

Short Stops

1(3) Derek Jeter, NYY: Not the best week at this position, and Jeter wins thanks to having the least mediocre performance. (5 R, 3 RBI, 1 SB, .286 AVG)

2(2) Elvis Andrus, TEX: Andrus brings in guaranteed steals for his owners every week.(2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, .333 AVG)

3(1) Rafael Furcal, LAD: A bit of a drop for Furcal thanks to a drop in his average. (2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 SB, .211 AVG)

4(NR) Juan Uribe, SF: Uribe almost cracks the top-5 at a few positions this week, but will have to settle for #4 at SS. (4 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI, .292 AVG)

5(NR) Hanley Ramirez, FLA: He should be on top of the rankings every week but is just too inconsistent. (6 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB, .172 AVG)

on the cusp: Cliff Pennington, OAK; Alex Gonzalez, TOR, Ryan Theriot, LAD, Jose Reyes, NYM, Erick Aybar, LAA

Outfielders

1(1) Josh Hamilton, TEX: A quiet week as far as run production is concerned, but the guy just hits everything. (4 R, 4 RBI, .556 AVG)

2(5) Carl Crawford, TAM: Five stolen bases are good for two weeks of games.(5 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 5 SB, .231 AVG)

3(NR) Carlos Gonzalez, COL: CarGo is emerging into a fantasy star before our eyes and could be a # 1 OF by 2011. (9 R, 4 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB, .516 AVG)

4(NR) Scott Podsednik, LAD: Podsednik put up great all-around numbers this week. (3 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB, .333 AVG)

Budding cornerstone fantasy outfielder Carlos Gonzalez

5(NR) Nelson Cruz, TEX: It isn’t the first time Cruz has made the list, just the fist time in a while. (2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB, .333 AVG)

on the cusp: Chris Young, ARI, Vladimir Guerrero, TEX, Alex Rios, CHW; Justin Upton, ARI; Corey Hart, MIL
