Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire (September 23rd)

Big things come in small packages.

If your team is in need of a boost, we suggest taking a gander at the fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups listed below. These guys are on absolute fire and surprisingly available in most standard leagues. Don’t wait too long as these fantasy baseball sleepers won’t last long in free agency.

Mike Aviles, KC, SS/2B (78): Since taking over for Chris Getz at second base, Aviles has been en fuego at the plate. Getz is suffering from the lingering effects of a concussion, and it is likely that Aviles will play regularly for the remainder of the season. Everyone told Dustin Pedroia that he was too small, too, so maybe owners should roll the dice and take a gamble on the little man.

David Murphy, TEX, OF (63): When Josh Hamilton returns from his broken ribs Murphy will likely see a decline in his production, however, the Rangers don’t need to rush Hamilton with their lead in the AL West at nearly ten games. If Hamilton is held out until that time, Murphy becomes even more attractive and a very good option to end your season and make a fantasy baseball playoff push.

Drew Stubbs, CIN, OF (80): It’s unfortunate so many frustrated owners gave up on Stubbs after his early season struggles because this kid is for real . While his low average isn’t anything new, his 20 homers and 25 stolen bases can help out any fantasy baseball lineup.

Raul Ibanez, PHL, OF (91): The whole Phillies team is playing lights out and they’re getting the pitching to support them. Ibanez has been very hot, and the veteran is showing flashes of 2009. With a .400+ average and 7 RBI this week alone, he could be very serviceable to owners looking to secure the crown.

Chris Johnson, HOU, 3B (55): Johnson missed a few games in the middle of the month because of a sore back, but has been on a tear since. Since returning, Johnson has three taters, eight runs scored, and has just one hitless game. If you are need of a hot in the utility slot, Johnson is a great fantasy baseball pickup.

Honorable Mention: Wilson Betemit, KC, 1B/3B/DH (33); Danny Valencia, MIN, 3B (18); Carlos Ruiz, PHL, C (58); Colby Rasmus, STL, (92);
