If your team is in need of a boost, we suggest taking a gander at the fantasy options listed below. These guys are absolutely on fire and are available in most standard leagues. Don’t wait too long as these guys are bound to be snatched up by week’s end.
Raul Ibanez, PHI, OF (77): There was some concern that Ibanez could miss time thanks to an injured wrist, but Ibanez came out on Tuesday and continued his 11-game hitting streak. Ibanez hasn’t lived up to his homerun totals of last season, but his three homeruns during his streak gives his owners something to look forward to as he attempts to come out of a season-long drought. I also love any player on a team that is streaking and trying to usurp the division lead.
Domonic Brown, PHI, OF (24): Another OF from Philadelphia cracks the list. There was much talk that Jayson Werth would be traded before the deadline, and that Brown would be his replacement. Werth never left, but Brown came up from triple-A and it doesn’t look like he will be leaving his center field spot any time soon, especially with regular Shane Victorino on the DL. Despite a debut that caused some rumbling, Brown has been relatively quiet since his promotion, but based on his arsenal of talents and ability to steal bases and score runs, he doesn’t figure to camouflage on the wire for too much longer.
Brian Roberts, BAL, 2B (85): Roberts will be going fast in your league because a good second baseman can be hard to find, and he could be a great replacement if you need to make a trade (Dan Uggla, perhaps?). Despite batting over .300 since his return, the All-Star has no RBI and is hitting in a putrid Orioles lineup. Perhaps he’ll need some time to adjust before he can contribute at the level owners expect. Regardless, if he’s floating on your wire, nab him.
Neil Walker, PIT, 3B/2B (30): The Pittsburgh utility man was the first of many minor league call-ups for the Pirates. Pedro Alvarez was on the Wire last week, and this week Walker will take his place on the list. In the past week Walker has eight RBI. The Pirates are a young squad that have been very streaky since the All-Star break, so when they put up runs, they put up a lot. Walker could grab you some much-needed points with the right matchup.
Angel Pagan, NYM, OF (95): Pagan may already be taken in your league, but if he’s somehow still floating out there, scoop him up immediately. With a .407 average over the past week, Pagan has been putting his team in position to win. Pagan’s teammates have done their best to bring him home … they did it nine times in the week.
Miguel Montero, ARI, C (65): I love to add a catcher to the list because most teams rotate their catcher like he is a kicker on a fantasy football squad. If you want a good catcher to pick up, grab Montero. Buyer beware, Montero may drive you nuts with some poor plate performances. Fear not, potential buyers, as those are few and far between.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Keppinger, HOU, 2B/3B/SS (25); Jason Bartlett, TAM, SS (67); Jonny Gomes, CIN, OF (59); Chris Johnson, HOU, 3B (25)
