With just about three weeks left in the Major League Baseball season, fantasy baseball league titles are still mostly up in the air. With limited time remaining it is crucial to stay up to date on all the latest news and information regarding your fantasy baseball players. Fantasy Baseball Sportal will continue to provide you with all the latest player and team developments in the world of baseball in order for you to stay on top of your league.
Carlos Beltran, OF, New York Mets
Beltran is out of the Mets’ starting lineup on Thursday night. While an excellent fantasy play when fully healthy, Beltran has battled injuries for the greater part of the past two seasons and his value has greatly declined. Beltran should be benched if not dropped altogether in all fantasy baseball leagues as his value is at an all time low. Angel Pagan will take over Beltran’s duties in centerfield and with a solid 2010 Pagan has established himself as a solid fourth outfielder in most fantasy leagues.
Gordan Beckham, 2B, Chicago White Sox
Beckham, the second-year 2B from Georgia, is out of Thursday night’s lineup against the Twins. It is unknown if Beckham’s absence is related to the recent injury to his right hand or if he is simply getting the day off. Fantasy owners should monitor this situation as Beckham has bounced back to have a solid second half of the season after a miserable first half. Beckham should be benched in all daily fantasy baseball leagues.
Chris Young, SP, San Diego Padres
After missing the past five months while rehabbing his right shoulder, Young will return from the disabled list to start Sunday against St. Louis. While Young will most likely be on a limited pitch count in his first start, he is definitely worth picking up for the remainder of the season as he has solid upside. Young has shown in previous seasons he can pitch well and fantasy owners should watch his start on Sunday against the Cardinals closely.
Justin Upton, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks
Upton is out of the starting lineup Thursday for the second straight day with an apparent shoulder injury. This is not good news for fantasy owners as the Diamondbacks are already thinking about shutting down their stud OF for the rest of the season. Clearly in all daily leagues Upton should be benched and his situation is definitely worth monitoring as the liklihood of him being shut down increases with every game he doesn’t play.
Pablo Sandoval, 3B, San Francisco Giants
Sandoval, the giants’ super-sized 3B is not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s finale against the Dodgers. The move makes sense for San Francisco as the Giants are facing Ted Lilly and Kung-Fu Panda is hitting only .228 with one home run against left-handed pitching this season. Sandoval should be benched in all daily leagues.
