Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Thursday June 7th

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Thursday June 7thRole players in the NL Central figure to produce in a big way, while some stars will struggle to fulfill their lofty daily projections.

Value plays:

Neil Walker – The Pirates 2b is batting .350 over the last week, and is even better than that against the Reds Mike Leake. Walker is batting .375 against the righty, but more importantly for those looking to win daily fantasy baseball games, he has made those hits count in a big way. He has recorded more RBI than hits against Leake, putting him in a great position to produce well above his price tag tonight.

Nyjer Morgan – He may not be a player you trust over the long haul, but in a one game contest, I recommend taking a flier on the Brewers speedster. He hits Matt Garza hard (.467 career average) and should be in a position to score multiple runs tonight against the Cubs. With players like Ryan Bruan and Corey Hart in a strong lineup, Morgan is worth a spot on your roster if you are low on money in your salary cap fantasy baseball game.

Players to avoid:

Miguel Cabrera – A daily fantasy baseball stud, Cabrera has been rendered helpless against the 39 year old Derek Lowe. For his career, Miggy is batting a mere .174 against the Indians starter with three times as many strikeouts as RBI. Cabrera is priced as the top man at the hot corner for action today, but I’ll be surprised if he is any better than a top 5-10 option.

Jose Bautista – Another tough matchup for Joey Bats as Jake Peavy and the White Sox host the Blue Jays. He has retired Bautista on 9 of 10 at bats, with the lone hit being a harmless single. Peavy has struck out the Blue Jays slugger three times for every walk issued, giving him no reason not to attack the cleanup hitter.

Jay Bruce – A popular pick to lead the NL in HR’s this year, Bruce has struggled his way through the early 2012 season, and I expect that to continue against Kevin Correia. Bruce is batting .143 over the last week and even worse (.133) against the Pirates starter. The potential is still there for the Reds OF, but a slump busting performance isn’t likely tonight.
