Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Thursday June 28th

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must StartsA veteran Rockie and a hard nosed middle infielder from Boston should be considered when filling out your daily fantasy baseball roster.

Value plays:

Dustin Pedroia - Typically straying from hitters opposing King Felix Hernandez is a good idea, but the Red Sox second basemen has experienced success against the elite pitcher. He owns a lifetime .357 batting average versus the big righty and has walked as many times as he has struck out. The Red Sox lineup has shown signs of life over the last week, making Pedroia about as good a play in daily fantasy baseball leagues as possible against such a good pitcher.

Todd Helton – The Nationals pitching has been dominant all season long, but the 38 year old Helton has had some success against Edwin Jackson. He is a .417 lifetime hitter against righty with 3 times as many walks as strikeouts. I am expecting quality at bats from Helton, resulting in a solid day for his fantasy baseball owners.

Andre Ethier – He seems to be making this list daily, but he has yet another solid matchup against the Mets Chris Young. He boasts a .414 career average against Young with half of his hits leaving the ballpark. The Dodgers offense is struggling a bit without Matt Kemp, but for one night, Ethier figures to fill the void admirably.

Players to avoid:

Tampa Bay Rays - In my weeks of doing these breakdowns, I have never seen a single roster struggle to produce as much as the current Rays have against Max Scherzer. You need to avoid all Rays in daily fantasy baseball games as they have recorded a mere 7 hits in 59 at bats (.119 batting average). Only one player (Luke Scott) has more hits than strikeouts as the team has totaled 2.5 strikeouts for every hit. Scherzer’s 5.12 ERA isn’t good, but he has posted back to back to back quality starts, a streak that should continue tonight in Saint Pete.

Jimmy Rollins – JRoll has found his power swing of late, but a visit from a hot A.J. Burnett is likely to cool the shortstop off. Burnett has held Rollins to a .256 career average and has recorded more strikeouts than hits allowed. The Phillies lineup still lacks firepower, giving Burnett the confidence to challenge every hitter. Look for a low scoring game in the battle for Pennsylvania.

While all of these players have made a name for themselves in the pro, a whole list of players will begin their journey tonight in the NBA Draft. Fantazzle is offering a $100 NBA Draft freeroll, no risk all reward.
