John Buck – Looking for a long shot sleeper in your daily fantasy baseball league? The Marlins backstop is the way to go if you are on your final pennies, as he has 5 hits in 10 career at bats against the wildly inconsistent Dice-K Matsuzaka. It is also worth noting that 75% of Buck’s homers have come on the road this season.
Washington Nationals – Matt Moore is going to be a solid pitcher for years to come in this league, but the young Nationals figure to give him a hard time tonight. Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, and the Nats play good at home, and Moore has seen his ERA jump 1.23 runs when away from home. He has never faced these Nationals, and I believe he will challenge the big bats in an attempt to gain recognition as an elite young pitcher. That is a dangerous mentaility to enter a game with the hot hitting Nationals.
Players to avoid:
Adrian Gonzalez – The BoSox first basemen has underwhelmed the fantasy baseball community thus far this season, and the fiery Carlos Zambrano has had his number in the past. Gonzalez is batting .222 against the Marlin righty with no extra base hits. I still like Gonzalez as a break out candidate down the road, but that doesn’t start tonight.
Tampa Bay Rays – Gio Gonzalez is on a mission, and the Rays happen to be the next victim. As if his sparkling 2.52 ERA and 1.02 WHIP don’t say enough, the current Rays are batting a mere .167 against the lefty. Gonzalez has a lower ERA at home (2.33 compared to 2.70 on the road), making this a brutal matchup for any and all Rays. This is not the day to take a chance in daily fantasy baseball games on all or nothing players like Carlos Pena.
