Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Sunday June 24th

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must StartsRed Sox nation deserves to be excited about the kid they’ve got at the hot corner, not just today, but for years to come.

Value plays:

Adam Jones – He has been crushing the ball all season long, and I like his chances to expose Ross Detwiler tonight. Jones’ ideal matchup is a sub par lefty pitching in Balitmore, and that is exactly what he gets against the Nationals. His batting average jumps 12 points against lefties and 38 points at home, making this the perfect day to roster Jones in daily fantasy baseball games.

Will Middlebrooks – The torch has been passed in Beantown as Middlebrooks has earned the right for consistent playing time in the Boston lineup. He faces fellow youngster Mike Minor tonight, a pitcher who has been good of late. The advantage goes to the red hot Middlebrooks in this matchup as he is batting 63 points higher at home. He is hitting over .500 this past week and is showing no signs of cooling down. Consider him the best value at the hot corner not only today but possible for the rest of the 2012 season.

Texas Rangers – One of the better offenses in all of baseball gets a gem of a matchup when the Rockies visit Arlington. Alex White and his 6.55 career take the bump today, fresh off an outing in which he was able to record only 11 outs before departing. He struggles with command and then relies on strikeouts to bail himself out, but the patient and lethal Rangers won’t get themselves out, and figure to knock the ball around all night. You have my permission to roster as many Rangers as possible, as this could be fantastic fantasy outing for the entire offense.

Players to avoid:

Cleveland Indians – J.A. Happ is a name rarely feared by fantasy baseball owners, but when he pitches at home, he is an above average arm. He has 7 quality starts at home this season, including 4 of his last 5 starts, making him a solid bet to at least limit the surprisingly effective Indians offense today.

Jose Bautista – It’s pretty rare for a player to have a .318 average against a pitcher to show up on this list, but I am avoiding Joey Bats today. You’re not paying for a high average, you’re paying for elite power, and Mark Buehrle has limited that in 27 career plate appearances. Almost 40% of his plate appearances result  in either a strikeout or a walk, neither of which is going to help you a whole lot in daily fantasy baseball leagues. It may take some restraint, but I wouldn’t roster the games best power hitter today.
