Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Monday June 25th

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must StartsReed Johnson a good play against Johan Santana? These numbers say so.

Value plays:

Reed Johnson – Nobody is hitting Johan Santana these days, but Johnson has an outstanding career record against the Mets lefty. He owns a .520 batting average and is slugging .760, unheard of numbers against Santana. He is batting .341 in June with hits in 4 of his last 5 games. There are not many chances for such a bargain, but Johnson is worth every penny in daily fantasy baseball leagues.

Joey Votto – Arguably the best first basemen in the game today, Votto has led the Reds offensive attack all season long. That is a good bet to continue as Cincinnati welcomes Yovani Gallardo tonight, a pitcher whom Votto owns a .348 career average against. More than half of Votto’s hits have gone for extra bases and he draws 5 walks for every strikeout. Gallardo won’t intimidate Votto, thus making this a matchup to expose in fantasy baseball leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals – The Redbirds have found a little rhythm offensively, and Ricky Nolasco is the perfect pitcher to continue that trend. Current Cardinals are batting a jaw dropping .414 against the righty, with Matt Holliday and Rafael Furcal leading the charge with matching .500 batting averages. Yadier Molina has the lowest career batting average against Nolasco among St. Louis’ regulars (.375) and he is having a tremendous season at the dish.

Players to avoid:

Alex Rios and Gordan Beckham – The White Sox duo has combined for just 5 hits in 35 at bats (.143 average) with 8 strikeouts against Francisco Liriano. Combine that with the fact that the Twins pitcher finally looks healthy (12.2 innings and 5 hits over his last 2 starts) and you’ve got yourself a rough day for these two solid Sox in any daily fantasy baseball game.

Andre Ethier – The Dodgers slugger just can’t figure out Barry Zito, and a sparkling new contract is going to change that. Ethier has more strikeouts than hits against the Giants lefty and possess a .182 career batting average. Aside from the injured Matt Kemp, no current Dodger hits Zito especially well, meaning that this could be a long day for not only Ethier owners, but those who employ any member of the LA attack.
