Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Monday July 2nd

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must StartsTwo long time pro’s have a good enough matchup tonight to take us back to the days of their primes.

Value plays:

Todd Helton – With Troy Tulowitzki on the shelf, the veteran is being counted on to support the middle of the offense. He has done just that against Kyle Lohse, as he holds a .435 career average versus the Cardinals righty. He has also struck out only one time, indicating that he puts the ball in play nearly every time, and statistics show that hitting the ball is the best way to earn value in daily fantasy baseball leagues.

Scott Rolen – He may not be the fantasy baseball stud he once was, but in a Reds lineup that has had loads of success against Chad Billingsley, he is worth a spot on your roster. He has a .533 career average against the Dodgers righty with a solid 1.322 OPS. The Reds as a team are batting .296 against Billingsley and are an elite offense when playing at home. He may not be the sexy name at the hot corner, but for one day, he can produce with the best of them.

Kansas City Royals – A nightmarish June for Ricky Romero (7.33 ERA) figures to continue as he matches up against young Royals. Kansas City as a team holds a .299 average against the struggling lefty with their 4 best hitters holding averages even higher than that. Romero has seen his ERA and batting average against rise every month this season; all signs are pointing to a big day from the Royals.

Players to avoid:

Ryan Braun – The fiery Carlos Zambrano enjoys the challenge of facing the games elite outfielder, holding him to 11 hits in 43 at bats (.256 batting average). The Hebrew Hammer has struck out 14 times against the Marlins pitcher and is reaching base less than 32% of the time. There aren’t many days where Braun isn’t worth the investment in daily fantasy baseball games, but tonight is a night to look elsewhere.

Carlos Pena – The Rays slugger may not even be in the lineup tonight due to the lack of success he has had against the Yankees Freddy Garcia. Pena has only 4 hits in 39 career at bats (.103 batting average) against Garcia, and all of those hits have been harmless singles. When you roster Pena, you’re looking for the power potential, but that seems to be limited tonight, as he has never had any success against the Yanks righty.
