2011 Fantasy Baseball: Week 16 Injury Report

Another week, another update

You know the rules, another week of fantasy baseball means another week of fantasy injury updates. Read below to get a quick glance at who’s coming and going for week 16 of the fantasy regular season.

OF, Jose Bautista/Toronto Blue Jays: Jose Bautista has missed the last several games with a twisted right ankle. He hasn’t been placed on the DL yet, as the injury is not believed to be that serious. The Blue Jays believe that Bautista may have a good shot at returning for their next game on Tuesday the 19th at home against Seattle. For those in weekly leagues, I deem it safe to roll him this week.

OF, Carl Crawford/Boston Red Sox: Carl Crawford is finally off the DL. He’ll be starting in left field Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles. He has been sidelined since June 17th and may need a good amount of at-bats to regain his timing. Considering how well he was doing before he got hurt, fantasy owners may finally be in store for the Carl Crawford that they brought in on draft day once his timing gets back to form. Weekly leaguers, if you can afford it, I would wait a week and let him shake off that rust on the bench. Daily leaguers, I would keep him benched for a game or two, or at least until he has his first good game before rolling him with confidence.

SS, Jose Reyes/New York Mets: Reyes has been on the 15-day DL since July 3rd with a strained left hamstring. He is however, ready for a return this Tuesday, at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. Today, July 18th, Jose Reyes will have a rehab assignment for class A Brooklyn and has already run the bases prior to his assignment without any setbacks or nagging pain.  Weekly leaguers, roll him with confidence, he should be a full go.  Daily leaguers, you already know what to do.

OF, Grady Sizemore/Cleveland Indians: Grady Sizemore is down again with yet another injury—a right knee this time which he twisted while rounding first base after a first inning double on Sunday against the Orioles. He’ll be eligible to return on August 2nd, so count him out for the rest of July. Although Sizemore was hitting a modest .237, he was still doing solid for the Indians with 10 home runs and 29 RBI, but injury prone players like this is why you avoid them on draft day.

SP, Josh Beckett/Boston Red Sox: Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled appearance during the 2011 All-Star Game because of a sore left knee. That left knee however, looked just fine as Beckett turned in 8 innings of work on Sunday, giving up only 1 hit to the Tampa Bay Rays for the second time this year. He didn’t get the win as the game went 16 innings, but he did lower his season ERA to 2.12 and is just en fuego right now. It’s safe to say that Beckett is no longer on injury watch with his last performance. Daily and weekly leaguers can start him as they usually would.
