Daily Fantasy Baseball Must Starts: Tuesday June 19th

Daily Fantasy Baseball Must StartsIn the same division there is a second place team you need to avoid completely and a last place team that has a player destined for a big day.

Value plays:

Alex Rodriguez – ARod seems to be aging in front of our eyes, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has hit Tim Hudson hard over his career. The Yankees third basemen is batting .357 against the Braves righty, hitting for considerable power (one third of his hits have gone for extra bases and one fifth of his hits have left the ball park). Playing at home, the Yankees offense is one of the best in the big leagues, and with plenty of hitters surrounding him, ARod has great upside in daily fantasy baseball games.

Yadier Molina – There are no two ways about it, the Cardinals catcher is having a great season. For most hitters a matchup with Justin Verlander is reason enough to look else where in daily fantasy baseball leagues, but Molina thrives on facing the best. He owns a lifetime .625 average against Verlander, with 60% of his hits resulting in doubles. This is going to be a low scoring affair, but don’t be shocked if it is Molina who gets to Verlander.

David Ortiz – In fact, most of the Red Sox are a solid play against Mark Buehrle today, as they own a .318 lifetime average against the crafty lefty. Ortiz leads the charge with a .345 mark over 58 career at bats, with half of his hits going for extra bases. If you’re looking for a cost efficent player to complete your salary cap fantasy baseball team, Kelly Shoppach is the play. He leads the team in career HR’s against Buehrle despite ranking 7th on the team in career at bats.

Jeff Francoeur – Not a sexy name, but Francoeur has experienced quite a bit of career success against the Astros Wandy Rodriguez. He owns a .357 career mark against the lefty with as many RBI as hits. With Eric Hosmer and Yuniesky Betancourt starting to find a little bit of rhythm, this Royals team is destined for a breakout game. Francoeur is batting over .300 in the last 7 days, and I expect him to produce tonight.

Players to avoid:

Baltimore Orioles – The surprising O’s have a track record of struggling against Johan Santana, and with the Mets ace throwing the ball well, there is no reason to think that that trend won’t continue tonight. Current Oriole hitters are batting a pathetic .167 against Santana, and are only reaching base 21.7% of the time. Adam Jones and company have likely carried your fantasy baseball teams before, but today is not the day to roster any of them.
