Hosmer enters the league with some major hype behind him
There is a buzz beginning to hover around major league baseball. Once again we’ve reached that time of the year where highly touted prospects begin to make their ascent to the big leagues. Hot prospects that got a taste of the show in spring training have either proven their value or shown they need more seasoning. The excitement around teams with prized prospects is certainly palpable. Fresh faces bring with them the promise of new hope and renewed optimism as well as the invigorating presence of youth. The rankings got a bit shaken up this week with news that one of the most highly regarded prospects in the game was arriving on the scene. Eric Hosmer was called up to Kansas City on Thursday, much earlier than anyone had anticipated. The Royals have put an exciting product on the field this year, centered around their seemingly unlimited supply of prospects. Hosmer has an opportunity to do something special and show fantasy baseball owners why he is well worth the investment. Its time to get with it or get lost.

Domonic Brown is back healthy and doing damage
Things are starting to get interesting around the league and baseball is ready to welcome the sweltering summer months that are right around the corner. Players begin to settle into a groove and managers finally have themselves a lineup they don’t need to tinker with daily. For rookies, this of course means that they have either established themselves as contributors, fallen into a bench role or worse…been sent to the minors. Many of the phenoms we’ve seen included in this list previously have maintained their value, while others have lost it entirely. This weeks installment has that new car smell as some of my preseason picks have worked their way back into the discussion. The top of the list is still dominated by great young hurlers, but the guys found near the bottom have been impressive in their own right. Don’t lose track of these guys when determining rosters in your fantasy baseball leagues.

Brandon Beachy has been showing great poise in his rookie campaign
With almost a full month of the 2011 MLB marathon in the books, many young phenoms are well on their way to establishing solid returns and others are knocking on the big league door. Many of the same names appear in the rankings this week, but I’ve reserved the bottom half of the list for some players that are making noise down in the minors and doing their best to force a promotion. I had to say goodbye to a few guys who had disappointing weeks, but when one door closes another opens (or so they say). The newest additions to the rankings are familiar names for sure, but don’t sleep on them for even one minute because they are about to blow up in a big way. Be sure to scoop these guys up as they are sure to provide immediate dividends in your fantasy baseball league.

Pineda looks to be legit in the early going
Baseball is back in our lives and the grind of a full season is finally hitting some of the rookies on this list. A few have responded quite positively and others have been completely overwhelmed. After two plus weeks of action youngsters like Kyle Drabek and Michael Pineda have flourished, while others like Brandon Belt and Freddie Freeman seem to be overmatched. Some new names have jumped into the rankings this week and other entrants are familiar, having made the list in the preseason. Patterns are certainly starting to develop and tendencies can easily be seen so now more than ever make sure to pay close attention and get your learn on.

Jeremy Hellickson can be the next big thing in fantasy baseball.
The first week of the fantasy baseball season has come and gone and one group has already made quite a name for themselves, the rookies. Just about every youngster found in the rankings this week made great strides over the last seven days. In just a short period of time these young guns have stepped up into the spot and forced people to recognize their game. Pitchers dominate the rankings this week and it’s with good reason too. Some of the following young men outdueled proven veterans last week and gave themselves additional confidence as they progress toward rookie of the year dreams. Let’s take a closer look at these very sound fantasy baseball sleepers. (more…)
