Another week, another update

You know the rules, another week of fantasy baseball means another week of fantasy injury updates. Read below to get a quick glance at who’s coming and going for week 16 of the fantasy regular season.

OF, Jose Bautista/Toronto Blue Jays: Jose Bautista has missed the last several games with a twisted right ankle. He hasn’t been placed on the DL yet, as the injury is not believed to be that serious. The Blue Jays believe that Bautista may have a good shot at returning for their next game on Tuesday the 19th at home against Seattle. For those in weekly leagues, I deem it safe to roll him this week. (more…)

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Week 15 Injury Report

Another week, another update

Another week, another set of injury updates.  Take a look at some of the big names that are coming or going, on the DL that is.

Carlos Gonzalez, OF/Colorado Rockies: An X-ray revealed a deep bone bruise for Carlos Gonzalez.  He returned to the lineup this past Friday as a defensive replacement, but still missed 4 games prior to that.  Hopefully after the All-Star break he’ll be recovered and ready to go, but bone bruises can be tricky and take a long time to heal.  Daily leaguers wait for updates, and weekly leaguers will want to tread carefully and proceed with caution.  After his return, I wouldn’t start him until he’s got a week under his belt and at least shows he can still play with that wrist. 2011 Fantasy Baseball: What’s with all the inconsistency?

What's with all the inconsistency out here?

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed in this wonderful game of fantasy baseball is that nothing is ever guaranteed.  Don’t get me wrong, nothing is ever guaranteed in any sport, but for some reason I just feel like in fantasy baseball, and even real-life baseball for that matter, nothing is ever, ever predictable.  For the 6 years that I’ve been playing fantasy baseball, the overall league stats by the half-way point in the season just never seem to play out the way that you would think they should.

For example, in my 16-team league, I’m currently matched up against the 15th place team and here I am losing to him going into Friday ball.  Yet looking at the overall team stats for the season, I’ve got him beat in almost every category by large margins.  I am the 2nd ranked team in that league, so theoretically, I should be crushing this guy, but I am not.  They say that the stats never lie, well in baseball they do! Elmo playin' along with the Joke of Derek Jeter making this years' All-Star team!

Ok, first of all, Elmo is on this photo because Derek Jeter making this year’s All-Star team is a joke.  Somebody please answer this question for me.  At 37 years of age, coming fresh off the DL this past Monday with a bum right calf muscle, hitting .256 with only 2 home runs and 20 RBI, how the heck did Derek Jeter get voted into the 2011 All-Star game?  What kind of All-Star game is this where the more deserving players who are having real All-Star seasons keep on getting snubbed out of making the team?  I always thought the All-Star game was for those players who are having All-Star type seasons.  What’s going on out here?

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Week 14 (July 4-10) Injury Report

Monday, July 4th, 2011

Another one bites the dust!

OF, Torii Hunter/L.A. Angels: On Friday, July 1st, during the first inning of the game, Torii Hunter was hit by a pitch on his left hand from Hiroki Kuroda and was removed from the game after playing two innings after the incident.  X-rays came back negative, but he was still held out of the lineup for both Saturday and Sunday and is listed as day-to-day.  The injury is being called a bruised left hand.  Manager Mike Scioscia did however say that Hunter would be available for defense and pinch-running, so it doesn’t sound like the injury is too serious.  For managers in weekly lineup leagues, if you have another solid option on the bench, I would use it until he proves he can still hit with that wrist.  Daily leagues, keep him sidelined until further notice.
